Edakkal Caves, three km from Ambalavayal is located on the Ambukuthy Mountain. You can trek or walk up to them. If you are a wildlife enthusiast, then head for the Muthanga Wild Life Sanctuary, 16km. east of Sulthan Bathery. Close to the Karnataka border, these forests cover 345 sq.km. Be sure to spots elephants and spotted deer.

Pookot Lake is a natural fresh water lake, surrounded by evergreen mountains. The Pookot Lake tourist resort in Vythiri is the most sought-after tourist spot in Wayanad. There is an aquarium and a green house there. Boating facilities are available around the lake. Kuruva Island is covered by a 1,000-acre evergreen forest on the tributaries of east-flowing Kabani river. This uninhabited island is abundant in birds, and is famous for orchids and medicinal plants.
