Karthika homestay, run by a traditional Hindu family, is easily accessible from the city but is a quiet place to stay at. It stands in Kumbalangi village, near the Ernat Temple. The temple has a small ‘kaavu’, where you can find numerous varieties of trees. The place is calm, ideal for a quiet vacation. Added to music from the temple is the chirping and singing of birds.

 

The owners and hosts are Salil Raj and his wife, Anita. Anita is a senior class teacher at a city school. Akshay Salil and Agnay Salil are the couple’s two handsome sons. Each person in the family speaks English fluently and loves to interact with their guests.


There are two beautiful AC rooms, with attached baths, for guests. The large and spacious rooms are airy and comfortable. There’s hot and cold water 24 hours. The rooms also have neat wardrobes with lock. There are also laundry and doctor-on-call facilities.


At Karthika homestay, breakfast is complimentary. Though seafood is the word here, all traditional Kerala dishes are served, too. The homemaker, Anita, cooks delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. You can learn to cook a delicious dish or two from her.


Guests can enjoy awesome backwater tours, houseboat trips and other travels around the state and south India. They’ll also arrange taxis for tourists, throughout your stay. While you’re here, you can undergo relaxing ayurvedic massages. Watch Kathakali and Kalaripayattu shows in the evenings as well as go for shopping tours around the city.
