Kumbalanghi

Kumbalanghi is a backwater village situated in Ernakulam district. It is known for its idyllic tourist getaways, lagoons, mangroves and fishing villages. With the help of the State Tourism Department the local industries have involved the rural people in developing tourism. Indigenous methods of agriculture, prawn and crab farming, coir weaving, etc. make them earn a living as well as provide for tourist attractions. Tourists can visit these establishments and take a look at how they function.

There are houseboats and smaller country boats that will take you around the backwaters where you can visit paddy fields and mangroves. You can visit the Chinese nets, quiet countryside and the ancient churches around the town. The village is connected to Cochin and other cities in Kerala through roads, canals and waterways. You can cruise through these canals on a country canoe and see the scenery changing as you move from one village to another.

Kumbalanghi has a hoard of homestays and private accommodation facilities which are cheap and you get to stay with a local family and get to know more about the place, traditions and cuisine. You will enjoy every bit of your stay in this dainty village. There are regular boat trips from Kumbalanghi to nearby areas of Kumarakom, Alleppey, Ezhupunna and Vaikom. The town of Thykkattussery is a small village bound by coconut groves and paddy fields. Pokkali fields are a common sight here. They are a traditional method of cultivation in which the harvest of a paddy crop is followed by prawn farming, followed by the next season of paddy
