Sundara Mahal - Wayanad

Homestay Wayanad

This century-old household is located in Kalpetta, Wayanad’s district headquarters. This ancestral home is your key to a perfect holiday. It is surrounded by orchards, a beautiful garden and the hosts are kind and fun-loving. There’s a huge playground for the kids. The place is a mix of the traditional and the modern.

The food served is pure vegetarian. It is cooked at home, without using any added preservatives or food colours. As organic as it gets. Guests can choose from North Indian, South Indian and Chinese fares. There are frequent poojas and other sattvic rituals conducted by venerable masters. The homestay is for families only.

The area around is full of greenery. A lot of birds – parrots, mynahs, doves, eagles, hornbills, and more – make their home in the trees here. A few varieties of monkeys, butterflies, moths and dogs can be found here. We are also very passionate about plating trees and keeping our surroundings clean. You can find many flowering and non-flowering shrubs and tress, too. As a tribute to the majestic plant life every evening an earthen oil lamp is lit under a Banyan tree.

As for your stay, there are two large rooms with king-size cots and spring beds. They are 7”x7”, plus we can give you an extra mattress, if needed. You can make use of the writer’s corner in each room – a writing table, lamp, designer chairs and an earthed power socket. The rooms have Belgian mirrors, comfortable recliners, coffee tables, cupboards, adequate and tasteful lighting, fan, insect-proof netting, fresh linen and blankets. Washrooms come with tiled floors and walls, neat washbasins, taps and showers. We make use of solar panels, too.

All around the home are places for you and your kids to enjoy a mesmerising evening. Catch up on gossip, chat with friends or play a game! There are indoor board games, dartboards, badminton courts and cricket nets. There’s a comfy library with loadsa books and comics in there.
